Lions Roar in First Half at Pattison Field

Lindenwood 4 - Upper Iowa 2. The Lions scored 4 goals in the first half and then held on for a 4-2 win over the Peacocks.

Lindenwood University controlled the first half of play in Saturday's MIAA soccer match on Pattison Field in Fayette.  The Lions poured in 4 goals in the first 45 minutes and then held off an aggressive Upper Iowa squad that scored a pair of goals just minutes apart midway through the second half.  After the 4-2 decision, UIU falls to 3-6 overall and 1-2 in the MIAA, while LU improves to 7-2-2 and 3-0 in the conference.

The Lions outshot their hosts 9-3 in the first half converting four of their chances into goals.  Upper Iowa's three shots all came within a few seconds of each other on their only opportunity toward the north goal, but Aleksa Nenadic was up to the challenge making three saves at point-blank range. Gabriel Jaimes, Nijaz Muratovic, Johannes Brendle and Adnan Mahmutovic all scored goals for the Lions as the visitors put all four balls in the net within seventeen minutes of each other.

Upper Iowa returned to the field in the second half with a renewed desire and picked up their intensity on the offense.  Ryan Pinkerton got the home team on the scoreboard in the 64th minute.  Pinkerton scored on a breakaway set up by a through ball off the foot of Fausto Ordenana. Ryan Crabtree then cut the gap to two with his first goal of the season just 39 seconds later.  Crabtree finished off a pass from Blair Lyons to pull UIU within two goals as the scoreboard showed 36 minutes to play. Upper Iowa had a few other opportunities but couldn't ring the bell again falling 4-2 to Lindenwood.

The Peacocks will play the Tigers of Fort Hays State University on Friday, Oct. 7 at 5:30 p.m. in Hays, Kansas.
