Division II Updated Bracket – NWCA National Duals
 
Upper Iowa's run at the NWCA National Duals will continue to a second day thanks to a 2-1 record on Friday.  After a 24-15 win over #14 Wheeling Jesuit in the opening round, the Peacocks dropped a 33-10 decision to #1 Maryville University in the quarterfinals.  Facing elimination, #11 Upper Iowa defeated #18 Newberry College 24-13 to secure a spot in the top eight for the fifth straight year and eighth time in the last nine years.  The Peacocks are now 7-1 on the season.
 
The Peacocks will face the #12 Dragons of Tiffin University on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. (ET).  Tiffin also went 2-1 on Friday with an opening round loss to the #3 University of Nebraska-Kearney 26-19 and a pair of wins on the backside over McKendree University 21-18 and #4 Mercyhurst University 26-19. In UIU's dual with the #1 Saints, the team got wins in three straight matches, but the Maryville wrestlers came away with seven wins in the match to post the 33-10 victory.  Zak Benitz (165) posted the first win of the dual for the Peacocks with an 11-3 major decision over Dimitri Willis, an All-American (2013-14).  Colbey Vance (174) followed with a 4-1 decision over Travis Lang and Dalton Westerlund (184) made it three straight with a 2-1 win in the first tiebreaker period over Nick Burghardt, a two-time All-American and 2015 National Runner-up. Garrett Wangsness lost a close 5-3 decision at 125 pounds, but the Saints scored wins by fall at 133, 141 and 197 in addition to a UIU forfeit at 285 to secure their trip into the championship semifinals.
 
Upper Iowa took on the #18 Wolves of Newberry in an elimination dual and picked up wins in six of the matches including three bonus-point wins for the 24-13 victory. Newberry took an early 3-0 lead, but the Peacocks rattled off all six of their wins in a row to push out to a 24-3 advantage. Matt Paulus (133) got the ball rolling with a 4-2 decision and Jordan Roths (141) followed with a first period pin (1:24).  Damian Penichet (149) earned a 7-4 decision in front of Jordan Rinken's (157) technical fall victory by a score of 17-0.  Benitz and Vance wrapped up the final two wins of the day for Upper Iowa; Benitz claimed a 10-5 decision and Vance scored a 12-3 major decision.  Newberry won the final three matches, but it wasn't enough as the Peacocks got the victory.
