THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK VOLLEYBALL... The #22 Warriors of Winona State University come to Dorman Gym Tuesday night for a Northern Sun Conference match against Upper Iowa. WSU is coming off an upset of then-ranked #3 Concordia University, St. Paul on Saturday, while UIU will look to bounce back from the near upset of Minnesota State University, Mankato over the weekend. Following the early match this week, the teams will resume their normal Friday-Saturday match schedule. Upper Iowa will head west to face #22 Augustana University and #5 Wayne State College on Friday (7 p.m.) and Saturday (3 p.m.), Sept. 26-27.
NSIC GAUNTLET... The Northern Sun Conference has always been widely known as the top volleyball conference in all of NCAA Division II; but this year they are even better. The NSIC is currently boasting seven teams in the AVCA's Top 25 Poll and one more receiving votes. Included in the nationally-ranked octet is #1 Minnesota Duluth, #3 Southwest Minnesota State, #5 Wayne State, #8 Concordia-St. Paul, #19 Northern State, #22 Augustana, #22 Winona State and Minnesota State is receiving votes.
RECORD WATCH... Senior outside hitter
Jennifer Mundt climbed into second place all-time in kills at Upper Iowa last week thanks to her 11 against the Golden Bears on Thursday night. She now has 1,233 kills in her four seasons passing Sara Vance (1,208). Mundt is now just 72 kills shy of the all-time mark held by Shea Meyerman (1,305). The Utica, Minn. product has registered 172 kills through the first ten matches averaging 4.3 kills per set with a .204 hitting percentage. Both her total kills and kills/set are the second highest tally in the conference behind Minnesota State's Krista Hassing.
