Box Score The Upper Iowa women's soccer team battled to a 1-1 tie with the Augustana Vikings on Saturday afternoon at Pattison Fields.
Savannah Schinto scored her first career goal, scoring the game-tying goal in the 75th minute, while
Kaitlyn Emanuel made a career-high 14 saves. With the tie, UIU moves to 1-2-2 on the season and 0-1-1 in NSIC play, while the Vikings are now 3-1-1 and 1-0-1 in conference.
Augustana came out and broke open the scoring with a goal inside the first two minutes of the match. The Vikings continued to put on pressure on the Peacocks throughout the first half as AU outshot UIU 14-3 in the first 45 minutes.
But in the second half, the momentum swung to Upper Iowa as the Peacocks controlled the pace of play. Finally, 30 minutes into the second period UIU tied the game. Upper Iowa worked the ball down the right side of the field and sent a cross into the box that found the feet of Schinto, who bent a ball around the Augustana goalkeeper and into the net.
Both teams had opportunities to win the game in regulation over the final 15 minutes, but neither could score and the game headed for overtime.
In the first overtime, the Peacocks nearly ended it when
Jordyn Ostrowski had a one-on-one with the Viking goalkeeper, who made a diving save to keep the game tied. In the second overtime, Augustana had the best opportunity, forcing Emanuel to make a diving save to preserve the tie.
The Peacocks will once again be on Pattison Field tomorrow when they take on the Wayne State Wildcats at 1 p.m.
