Huge Second Quarter Fuels Peacock Football to Victory

Upper Iowa 34 - University of Mary 16. The Peacock football team improved to 2-0 with a win on the road thanks in large part to a 21 point second quarter.

Peacock fans are quickly becoming familiar with the new faces of Upper Iowa's offense this season.  Dimitri Morales found Jarred Edmonds three times for touchdowns in the second quarter as UIU broke a scoreless tie to take a 21-0 lead into halftime.  Morales claimed his fourth touchdown pass in the third finding Brandon Rogers and a pair of Brady Beuschel field goals (23, 38) bracketed to scores from U-Mary to set the final score at 34-16.

The win keeps Upper Iowa undefeated this season (2-0) and improves their record against the NSIC North Division over the last fourteen games to 11-3 including eight straight.

Morales threw for 446 yards and 4 scores on 36  of 59 passing and added 52 yards on the ground.  Trey MacTaggart hauled in 9 passes for 158 yards, while Jalen Amis caught 9 balls for 60 yards. Edmonds had 7 catches for 108 yards and the three td's and Cameron Lee grabbed 7 for 78 yards..

On defense, the Peacocks allowed just the two scores and a pair of two-point conversions.  The blackshirts were led by Tate Thompson (7 tackles and 2 interceptions), Nick Corley (10 tackles), Alex Wahl (7), Cole Stephen (7) and Jevell Rollins (5).

Upper Iowa returns home next Saturday, Sept. 19, for a 6 p.m. showdown under the lights at Harms-Eischeid Stadium with the Golden Eagles of the University of Minnesota Crookston.
