Peacocks Fall to #20 Vikings to Close 2015 Volleyball Campaign

#20 Augustana 3 - Upper Iowa 1 (25-21, 19-25, 25-13, 25-18). Upper Iowa closed out their 2015 campaign at home on Senior Day. The Peacocks dropped a four-set match to Augustana after the program recognized seven seniors.

The Peacocks dropped a four-set decision to the #20 Vikings of Augustana University on Saturday afternoon in Fayette.  Upper Iowa recognized their seven seniors including student coach Brad Sweeney and six players.  The six seniors included Tyann Caspers, Sydney Cyzon, Sarah Frisch, Jenna Hermsen, Jennifer Mundt and Taylor Williams.

A night after the Peacock defense was tenacious posting 73 digs in three sets against #4 Wayne State, UIU had trouble keeping the ball off the ground as Augustana hit .306 for the match posting wins in sets one, three and four.  Upper Iowa closed the season out with a 14-15 record overall and an 8-12 mark in the Northern Sun Conference.

After dropping the first set, 25-21, Upper Iowa bounced back and controlled the play in set two.  The home team held Augustana to a meager .054 hitting percentage and recorded a 25-19 win fueled by Mundt's 5 kills in the frame.  After the break, Augie got out to great starts in the third and fourth sets and Upper Iowa battled, but always found themselves a few points behind.

Mundt registered 17 kills on the night giving her 440 for the season which breaks her own single-season program record which she set a season ago at 439.  For her career, the Utica, Minn. product has set the UIU record in total kills at 1,499.  Williams and Hermsen led the defense with 10 digs each, while Ashley Larson and Kelsey Hinrichs both added 9 digs apiece.  Hermsen paced the offense with 28 assists and Malissa LeClaire chipped in 11 assists.

The group of seniors logged 50 wins for Upper Iowa over the last four seasons.
