THIS WEEKEND IN PEACOCK VOLLEYBALL… Upper Iowa continues their four-match homestand this weekend with a pair of NSIC bouts against the #8 Wolves of Northern State University and the Dragons of Minnesota State University Moorhead. NSU comes in atop the conference standings with a perfect 15-0 record overall and a 7-0 mark in NSIC play, while MSUM has posted an 11-4 record overall and a 4-3 mark against conference foes. The Peacocks will enter the weekend after a good weekend that saw them compete with #5 Southwest Minnesota State University on Friday before rallying from a 2-0 deficit on Saturday to pick up a win over the University of Sioux Falls and even their record at 8-8 overall and 2-5 in the NSIC.
THE NORTHERN SUN IS ON FIRE… The NSIC continues to prove its merit as the top volleyball conference in all of NCAA Division II. The conference currently has seven teams in the AVCA's Top 25 Poll and one more receiving votes. Included in the AVCA's NCAA Division II Top-25 is #1 University of Minnesota Duluth, #3 Concordia University, St. Paul, #5 Southwest Minnesota State, #8 Northern State, #10 Wayne State College, #20 Augustana University, #24 Winona State University and Minnesota State University, Mankato is receiving votes. UIU posted an upset of #24 (then #22) Winona State for their first win of the 2015 NSIC campaign.
JUST KILLIN' IT… Last weekend, Peacock senior hitter
Jennifer Mundt crossed a milestone in her four-year career at Upper Iowa. The Utica, Minn. product surpassed Shea Meyermann (1,305, 2006-09) for the all-time lead in kills Peacock volleyball history. Mundt racked up 13 kills on Saturday bringing her career total to 1,314. She is currently ranked 12
th in NCAA Division II and 2
nd in the Northern Sun in kills/set (4.36) and total kills (253). There aren't many arms in the country that swing as much either; Mundt's right shoulder has rotated through the zone on the 5
th most attack attempts (736) in the nation and most in the conference.
