Peacocks End Unbeaten Streak at 8 with 1-0 Loss to Lindenwood

Upper Iowa outshot the Lions 15-8, but a second half Lindenwood goal was enough to give UIU it's first loss of the year

The No. 12 Peacocks men's soccer team suffered their first loss of the season as they fell to the Lindenwood Lions 1-0 on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, UIU moves to 7-1-1 on the season and 2-1 in conference play, while Lindenwood improved to 5-3-1 and 2-1 in MIAA play.

The Peacocks controlled the majority of the game as Lindenwood regularly kept 10 players behind the ball, giving Upper Iowa plenty of space through the middle of the field. Despite having the ball for a large portion of the opening half, UIU was outshot 5-3 and the Peacocks were unable to put a shot on frame. The Lions made the most of counter-attacks and nearly scored in the first half when a header went off the crossbar.

Twenty minutes into second half, the Lions capitalized on a counter-attack. Eduardo Spragge Campo sent a cross into the box the found the foot of Stefan Andric, who was able to drive a shot into the left side of the net for the game's lone goal.

UIU tried to push the ball forward late but Lindenwood continued to pack it in defensively and Upper Iowa couldn't break through.

The Peacocks doubled the number of Lions shots in the second half due in part to the late pressure, finishing the game with 15 shots to Lindenwood's 8. Joaquin Alonso, Leandro Pena and Gabriel Caetano all had three shots for UIU, while Connor Rortvedt made three saves in goal.

Upper Iowa hosts Fort Hays State next Thursday, Oct. 8, at Pattison Field.
