THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK VOLLEYBALL… The Peacock volleyball team will travel to Bismarck and Minot, N.D. On Friday, UIU will be taking on U-Mary; the Marauders are currently amidst a four-match losing streak falling to Minnesota Duluth, St. Cloud State, Concordia-St. Paul and Minnesota State. Upper Iowa will line up against Minot State on Saturday; the Beavers are on a 12-match losing streak with just five set wins along the way. Minot State's last win came in Fayette in the 2015 Peacock Open versus the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology on Prochaska Court.
BIDDING FOR THE TOURNEY… The NCAA Regional Tournament only has room for the top 8 teams across three different conferences; there will definitely be some heartbroken teams when the selection committee reveals the chosen few. The Northern Sun continues to prove its merit as the top volleyball conference in all of NCAA Division II. The conference currently has seven teams in the AVCA's Top 25 Poll and one more receiving votes. Included in the AVCA's NCAA Division II Top-25 is #1 Concordia St. Paul, #4 Southwest Minnesota State, #5 Minnesota Duluth, #6 Northern State, #9 Wayne State College, #20 Augustana University, #25 Winona State University and Minnesota State University, Mankato is receiving votes. UIU posted an upset of #25 (then #22) Winona State for their first win of the 2015 NSIC campaign.
GET IT TO MUNDT… Senior hitter
Jennifer Mundt has had an outstanding season setting the Peacocks' new career record for kills. She now has 1,349 in her four years as she begins to distance herself from the remaining three 1,000-kill club members. The Utica, Minnesota native leads UIU with 288 kills on the season, averaging 4.30 kills per set.
DYNAMIC DUO… The Peacocks have had plenty of help from senior
Jenna Hermsen and freshman
Malissa LeClaire. The two have combined for 664 assists, averaging 11.2 per set.
FRESH-BLOCKERS… UIU has improved their blocking over the last few weeks thanks to a pair of freshmen,
Lauren Wombles and
Bethany Lovhaug. Wombles averages .52 blocks per set while Lovhaug sits at .58 to lead the Peacocks. The two freshmen have been influenced by senior leaders
Sarah Frisch (.46 per set) and Mundt (.43).
DIGGIN' IT… Senior libero
Taylor Williams has been on her game defensively this year with 301 digs enabling the Peacocks to stay in system and mount an attack on the opposition.
