Upper Iowa improved to 4-2 on the season with a dominating 52-20 victory over Concordia University, St. Paul. The Peacocks accumulated 598 yards of total offense including 460 passing yards, while holding the Golden Bears to just 120 yards of offense including a mere 27 rushing yards. After the visitors pulled within one point, 14-13, in the first quarter, Upper Iowa outscored their guests 38-7 over the final three quarters to drop CSP to a record of 1-5. The win marked UIU's second win in the series history which covers 10 meetings.

Dimitri Morales found
Jalen Amis twice for touchdowns in the first quarter giving Upper Iowa an early 14-0 lead. Following the second touchdown, Alquawn Vickers returned the kickoff 91 yards cutting the home team's lead in half. On Upper Iowa's next possession, the Golden Bears got a sack and forced a fumble which they recovered at the 9-yard line. One play later, CSP's Darius Chapes rushed up the middle for a 9-yard score, but
Derek Hurschman got his hand on the extra point attempt leaving UIU in the lead, 14-13.
Upper Iowa answered with three scores including a 2-yard scamper by Morales, a 12-yard connection between Morales and
Jarred Edmonds and a
Brady Beuschel 48-yard field goal, marking a new career-high, to take a 31-13 lead. MSUM scored the final points of the first half after Upper Iowa's third turnover. Despite picking up only 92 yards in the first half, Concordia-St. Paul only trailed 31-20 at the break.
The final 30 minutes of the game belonged to Upper Iowa. The Peacock defense held the Golden Bears to just 28 yards of offense and recorded four sacks while keeping Concordia-St. Paul off the scoreboard. Upper Iowa crossed the goalline three more times in the second half including Morales' fourth and fifth touchdown passes to Edmonds and
Brandon Rogers.
Vincent Otdoerfer put the final score on the board with a 4-yard sprint up the middle to give UIU their 52-20 lead.
Morales completed 38 of his 48 attempts with the majority coming on quick routes by his receivers. The junior signal caller accounted for 460 passing yards and 5 touchdowns while running for 32 yards and a touchdown. Upper Iowa got huge games out of their top three receivers, who all picked up more than 100 yards. Amis led the trio with 14 catches for 151 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Edmonds added 10 catches for 135 yards and 2 scores and
Trey MacTaggart hauled in 7 passes for 112 yards including a 50-yard catch and run.
Freshman
Tanner Thompson led the team in tackles with 7, while
Cole Stephen registered 6 with a tackle for loss.
Marcus McCoy picked off a pass for his second of the season and added 4 tackles. As a group, the Peacocks recorded 9 tackles for loss including the four sacks by
Alex Wahl,
Joe Busch, Hurschman and
Dakota Basten.
Upper Iowa will head out on the road next Saturday, Oct. 17, to continue their NSIC schedule at Winona State University. The Peacocks and Warriors will kickoff at 1 p.m.
