For the first time this season, a Peacock opponent hit the century mark as Upper Iowa lost to the #14 Minnesota State Moorhead 106-81.
The Dragons shot a season-high 69 percent (40-58) from the field and 58.3 percent (14-24) from beyond the arc, scoring 106 points for the second time in the last three games.
For the first 17 minutes of the game, Upper Iowa (8-5, 4-3 NSIC) hung with Minnesota State Moorhead (15-1, 6-1 NSIC). While UIU never led in the first half, they kept the game within six points for the majority of the initial period. With just under three minutes left in the half, the Dragons hit back-to-back three pointers to push the lead to nine. The Peacocks headed to into the locker room at halftime down eight, 52-44.
Minnesota State Moorhead connected twice from three point range early in the second half to stretch its lead to double digits. UIU struggled to get back into the game, shooting just 38.5% from the field in the second half and 1-of-7 from distance. Â
Jordan Hay led the Peacocks with 19 points, while
Jernell Hughes added 12 and
Bo Pagel,
Josh Weeber and
Jimmy Roth chipped in 10 each. Roth added a team high 6 rebounds.
The Peacocks will look to bounce back against Northern State tomorrow night in Aberdeen, S.D. The game tips off at approximately 6:00 p.m.
