Upper Iowa started the morning on fire against Lake Superior State, before stumbling in the third set, and finally coming back with vengeance in fourth to win the match, 3-1. In the afternoon, the Peacocks played their third 5-set match of the weekend, falling to Wisconsin Parkside 3-2.UIU 3 - LSSU 1 (25-15, 25-19, 23-25, 25-6)The Peacocks came out looking like the team that won two matches on day one of the Keweenaw Classic. UIU used a nine-point rally to set the tone at the beginning of set one and take an early 12-5 lead. The Lakers wouldn't get within six points and the Peacocks took set one with ease, 25-15. Set two was a back and forth affair until Upper Iowa rallied again, scoring the final eight points to win the set, 25-19. With a sweep in sight, UIU led the third set 19-14 before the Lakers were the ralliers, scoring 11 of the last 15 points and winning the set 25-23.
Undetered, the Peacocks dominated set four, hitting .700 with 14 kills, to win the set 25-6 and the match. UIU scored the set's first seven points and never reliquished the lead. As strong as the start was for the Peacocks, they ended even better, scoring 17 of the last 20 points.Jennifer Mundt led the offense with 18 kills, while Hailey Brown added 10 kills and 33 assists.  Jenna Hermsen got her hands on 15 digs, while Amanda Weiss finished with 14. Â
UIU 2 - UWP 3 (27-25, 23-25, 16-25, 25-21, 10-15)Upper Iowa was looking to start the season 4-0 for the first time since 2012 when it took the court against Wisconsin-Parkside. After pulling off a 27-25 win in set one, the Peacocks were on their way to a perfect weekend. The Rangers had other plans, taking sets two and three by out hitting UIU in both sets. The Peacocks regrouped in set four, hung point-for-point with the Rangers and tightened down when it counted, scoring the final three points to win, 25-21, forcing a fifth set.

The fifth and final set was not representative of the way the weekend had gone for Upper Iowa. The Peacocks fell behind 5-1 early, and while they had rallied back many times over the weekend, this one wasn't meant to be. The Rangers controlled the final set and cruised to a 15-10 victory, winning the match 3-2. Mundt again led the Peacocks in kills with 24 and Hermsen paced UIU with 27 assists. Upper Iowa was kept in the match by its defense, which saw five players reach double digits in digs, led by Hermsen with 22 and Brown and Weiss with 21 each. According to Head Coach Aaron Nelson...
"We started out a little better this morning than yesterday and got our offense rolling early. We let off the gas in the third set and had to go to a fourth, but bounced back for the win. Just like the two matches yesterday, when we took care of things on our side of the net we were able to dictate tempo and take control of the match. It was a good win to start the day after two hard fought battles yesterday. We played very well this weekend to come away with three wins. It was a great start to the season."Up Next
