No. 25 Peacocks Fall in Overtime For Second Time in Three Games, Lose 2-1 to Lindenwood

UIU scored in the first half but gave up an early second half goal to force OT and the Lions scored 14 minutes into the extra period

The No. 25 Peacocks fell in overtime for the second time in three games, 2-1 to Lindenwood in St. Charles, Missouri.

Despite being outshot 7-2 in the first half, Upper Iowa took a 1-0 lead thanks to a goal by junior midfielder Greg Marshall. It was Marshall's second goal of the year and his first since the Montana State-Billings game, the first game of the year for the Peacocks. The assist on the goal went to Hugo Alves, the first point of Peacock career.

Lindenwood tied the game just 13 minutes into the second half when Andre Hayne scored his third goal of the year off a pass from Mihajl Petrovic. The remainder of the half was back and forth, though neither team was able to put a shot on net, forcing overtime.

Overtime saw each team alternate shots, forcing the goalkeepers to make two saves each. However, nine minutes into the extra period, Mitchell Hunt was able to beat the UIU goalkeeper Connor Rortvedt for the game winner. Rortvedt had seven saves on the day.

The Peacocks managed just four shots throughout the game, but placed all four on goal compared to the Lions, who took 14 shots, putting nine on frame.

Upper Iowa will look to get back to .500 in MIAA play when it takes on Harding University in Searcy, Oklahoma on Oct. 2. Kickoff will be at 6 p.m.
