This Week in Peacock Volleyball… The Peacocks started their 2014 Northen Sun Conference season with a 2-1 record last week, but the competition will step up this week with two nationally-ranked teams on the slate. The week will kick off with a WHITE OUT night on Tuesday in Fayette when the #3 Golden Bears of Concordia University, St. Paul come to Dorman Gym. Concordia-St. Paul has won the last seven straight NCAA Division II Championships and comes in with a 9-2 overall record and a 2-1 mark early in the NSIC season. Upper Iowa will head out on the road this weekend for their first conference double dip of the season. The Peacocks will line up against the #24 Wolves of Northern State University on Friday in Aberdeen, S.D. and then head Moorhead, Minn. to take on the Dragons of Minnesota State University Moorhead on Saturday. The Wolves enter the week with an 8-3 record and a 1-2 mark in the NSIC, while the Dragons are 5-6 this season and 0-3 in the conference.
What Can Brown Do For You... Senior setter
Hailey Brown is leading the Peacocks on the court through the first month of the season. The Elroy, Wis. native has handed out 256 assists, while knocking down 99 kills (2.3/set), picking up 128 digs (2.98/set) and denying 16 attacks at the net. Brown has recorded a team-high 12 service aces. Brown has recorded four triple-doubles this season in kills, assists and digs.
Mighty Mundt... Junior hitter
Jennifer Mundt is pacing the Peacock attack with a team-high 179 kills, which is ranked 9th in NCAA Division II and 2nd in the NSIC this season. Her 4.16 kills/set rank 3rd in the conference and 15th in the nation and thanks to her 0.56 blocks/set she is averaging 4.57 points/set for the Peacocks. The Utica, Minn. product's points/set rank 25th in the country and 4th in the conference.
"Weiss" in her Veins... Senior libero
Amanda Weiss has posted a 4.67 digs/set average which is 5th best in the NSIC, while her 201 total digs are ranked 34th in the nation and 2nd in the conference As a team, the Peacocks are averaging an NSIC-best 18.58 digs/set; the defensive average is ranked 11th in NCAA DII. Weiss is joined in her defense of the court by Brown (128), Hermsen (122), Mundt (110),
Taylor Williams (102) and
Kelsey Hinrichs (37).
