Box Score Upper Iowa wrapped up the non-conference schedule with a 1-0 loss to the Central Oklahoma Bronchos in Edmond, Okla.
In the 2013 season, the Peacocks averaged 2.2 goals per game. During the 2014 preseason, UIU racked up seven goals in just two games. However, in three regular season games this year, the Peacocks have yet to score.
"We'll have to figure it out this week," said
Head Coach Brian Diaz. "We'll have to figure out what the answers are to putting the ball in the back of the net. Obviously it's our achilles heel right now. We have too many talented attacking players for this to be the situation."
This game against the Bronchos followed the early trend for Upper Iowa; doing everything but put the ball in the back of the net.
It was a 0-0 game until the 86
th minute of the match, when an attempted clear by the Peacock defense found the foot of Broncho forward Gabi Bochus, who put the shot on goal. The ball looked like it may have been stopped, but just trickled across the line for the game-winning goal.
"UCO is a good team," said Diaz. "They're traditionally a tournament contender. We knew they were going to be a good team, and they were. They put away an opportunity that they had, and we didn't unfortunately."
"It was an evenly played match," said Diaz. "I thought we had the more dangerous opportunities and just were not able to put the final the piece of the puzzle together."
But the question going forward is how will the Peacocks get the offense going?
"We'll figure it out and we'll find a way," said Diaz. "We are creating opportunities and that's the encouraging part. Now, it's just coming down to the final touch. The goals will come. We just have to keep pushing and keep creating chances like we created today."
The Peacocks will look for their first win in their next match, when they take on Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D., on Sept. 20 at 1 p.m.
