THIS WEEKEND IN PEACOCK VOLLEYBALL… Upper Iowa will close out their 2014 season this weekend at Minot State University and the University of Mary in Minot and Bismarck, North Dakota.  The Peacocks defeated both the Beavers and Marauders at home in a pair of back-to-back sweeps on Sept. 19 and 20.  UIU (11-15, 6-12 NSIC) is tied for 10th place in the conference standings with MiSU (9-18, 6-12 NSIC), while UM (4-23, 1-17 NSIC) is tied for 15th heading into the final weekend.

ALL-NSIC SECOND TEAMER… Jennifer Mundt capped off a tremendous week at home with her first All-NSIC honor.  Mundt powered down 61 kills in three matches last week and added 51 digs and 12 blocks.  In a five-set loss to Northern State University, the junior hitter put together a 25-kill, 25-dig effort.  Mundt became the first junior and fourth player at Upper Iowa to reach 1,000-kills in a career.  Her 406 kills this season are a new single-season record as well breaking the old mark of 397 by Melanie Behnke in 2012.

LAST WEEK FOR THE PEACOCKS... Upper Iowa went 1-2 in the week of three home matches.  The victory came in five sets over Minnesota State University Moorhead on Friday, while the two losses were against Winona State (3-0) on Tuesday and a five-set, thriller to Northern State on Saturday.  On Tuesday, UIU had set point in the first and a late, three-point lead in the second before falling to the Warriors. On Saturday, only one point separated the teams on the day.  Amanda Weiss registered 68 digs (5.23/set) and added 5 aces and 5 assists in her final home week to lead the back line.  Hailey Brown had a triple-double against Northern State and recorded 67 assists, 30 kills and 29 digs in the week as well as 6 blocks.  Tyann Caspers (26 kills) and Alisha VanderWoude (23) both added offense for the Peacocks at the net.  Haylie Franklin led the team in blocks with 13 (1.0/set).

IN THE RANKINGS... Jennifer Mundt - Total Kills (406, 8th NCAA/1st NSIC), Total Attacks (1,147, 11th NCAA, 2nd NSIC), Attacks/Set (11.36, 20th NCAA, 2nd NSIC), Kill/Set (4.02, 24th NCAA, 4th NSIC), Points/Set (4.36, 37th NCAA, 5th NSIC)... LAST TIME THEY MET... UIU 3 - UM 0 - Upper Iowa earned their first Northern Sun Conference win of the year with a sweep of the Marauders.  The Peacocks used an aggressive attack and solid defense to dominate the match.  Thanks to 37 kills and a hitting percentage of .308, the Peacocks were able to push through their guests.  Jennifer Mundt led the team with 12 kills while hitting .391, but five other players had at least 5 kills.  UIU's middles, Alisha VanderWoude and Haylie Franklin, picked up 8 and 6 kills, respectively, while Hailey Brown notched 7, Tyann Caspers knocked down 6 and Kelsey Hinrichs added 5.  Brown and Jenna Hermsen did well to pace the Peacock attack with 20 and 14 assists apiece. UIU's defense forced the Marauders into 22 hitting errors and a .064 hitting percentage for the match.  The back line was led by libero Amanda Weiss, who picked up 16 digs.  Hinrichs added 10 digs, while Mundt was up on 4 blocks and VanderWoude, Franklin and Brown each added 2 denials.  UIU 3 - MiSU 0 - The Peacocks completed a weekend sweep after defeating Minot State in three sets.  Upper Iowa got off to a fast start in set one, rallied from behind in set two and controlled play in the third set.  Upper Iowa claimed a 45-38 advantage in kills and a 66-59 advantage in digs.  The big difference in the match came at the net where the Peacocks tallied 9 team blocks compared to the Beavers' 3 blocks. Mundt paced the UIU offense with 13 kills, while Caspers added 9, Hailey Brown chipped in 8 and Kelsey Hinrichs knocked down 7.   Brown dished up 24 assists, while the defense was led by Hinrichs' 16 digs and Haylie Franklin's 5 blocks (3 solo).
