Box Score Box ScoreThe Peacock volleyball team took the court against the #12 Wildcats of Wayne State College on Saturday in Wayne, Neb. Upper Iowa and Wayne State played a pair of tightly contested sets, but the home team got away late and earned a sweep to improve to 20-4 overall and 12-3 in the NSIC. With the loss, the Peacocks fell to 10-13 overall and 5-10 in the conference.
UIU's offense didn't struggle, but their opportunities were limited. The Peacocks recorded 37 kills and hit .212, but Wayne State powered to the win thanks to 53 kills and a .285 hitting percentage. WSC also posted a 5-1 advantage in team blocks.
Jennifer Mundt led the UIU attack with 10 kills, while
Hailey Brown added 9, and
Tyann Caspers knocked down 6. Brown paced the attack with 19 assists and
Jenna Hermsen added 12. Defensively,
Amanda Weiss registered 17 digs.
The first and third sets were tightly contested. UIU and WSC exchanged the lead 4 times and were tied 11 times in the first set, while the teams were tied 8 times in the final set although UIU never had a lead in the final two sets.
The Peacocks will return to Fayette this week for their final three home matches of the season. Upper Iowa will host Winona State on Tuesday, MSU Moorhead on Friday and Northern State on Saturday.
