Peacocks Win Third Straight In Route of Bearcats

UIU scored 1:08 into the game and never looked back in 5-0 victory

The Peacocks (9-6-1) tied a season high with five goals as UIU jumped out to a two-goal lead on Southwest Baptist (0-15) in the first nine minutes of the game and went to win, 5-0. Upper Iowa defeated SBU earlier this season in Fayette, 5-1.

Leandro Pena put UIU up 1-0 just 1:08 into the match, following up his two-goal performance last game against Illinois Springfield in which both of his goals came inside of the game's first six minutes. It was Pena's sixth goal of the year, just one off of his team-leading seven from a year ago.

For the second straight game, the Peacocks would lead 2-0 early as Greg Marshall scored at the 8:44 mark. Johnny McBeth wrapped up the first half scoring at 32:35 mark, giving UIU a 3-0 lead, Ryan Pinkerton on the assist.

Pinkerton got the Peacocks on the board first in the second half, scoring in the 63rd minute to put UIU up 4-0.

The final goal of the game was scored by McBeth, his second of the game and fifth of the season against SBU. Victor Vera got the assist, the first point in his Peacock career.

Connor Rortvedt got the start in goal for UIU, but Kyran Johnson played the game's final 22:58 to share the shutout. Neither goalkeeper was forced to make a save as all five of the Bearcat shots were off target.

UIU took 18 shots, putting 10 on goal. Pena led the way for the Peacocks with four shots, while Pinkerton had three and Aaron Calkins, Rafael Pedroso and McBeth took two each.

The Peacocks will return home for their final two games of the regular season next weekend when they host Fort Hays State on Thursday and Harding University on Saturday.
