This Week in Peacock Volleyball… After returning to .500 in the Northern Sun Conference two weeks ago, the Peacocks had a rough week with three four-set losses. Upper Iowa played very strong in their Friday night bout with the #6 Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State and outplayed their guests for much of the match only to fall four points short of the upset. UIU also lost a road match at Minnesota State on Tuesday and a home contest with Sioux Falls on Saturday. This week, the team heads west to challenge the Vikings of Augustana on Friday, Oct. 24, and the #6 Wildcats of Wayne State on Saturday, Oct. 25.
Mundt's Milestone... Jennifer Mundt is closing in on 1,000 kills in her third year with the Peacock volleyball team. With 55 more kills, the Utica, Minn. native will become the fourth player in Upper Iowa history to surpass the mighty plateau and the first Peacock to reach the mark during her junior season. Mundt currently has 325 kills this season, the 11th most of any hitter in NCAA Division II and 2nd in the NSIC, and 945 in her UIU career. Mundt ranks 20th nationally and 3rd in the conference in kills/set with 4.01. In addition, the junior is 43rd in the country and 5th in the conference in points/set with 4.34.
"Weiss" on the Prize... Libero
Amanda Weiss leads the Peacock defense with 397 digs this season. Her near-400 digs are the 34th highest mark in the nation and top total in the Northern Sun, while her 4.78/set are fifth best in the NSIC. The West Bend, Wis. native now has 1,357 digs in her four-year career in Fayette and is still in fourth place on UIU's all-time digs list but needs only 7 to move into second place. Stephanie Horstman registered 1,988 as the UIU libero from 2003-06.
"Hail" Damage... Setter
Hailey Brown is putting the final touches on a tremendous season in Peacock blue and white. The Peacock senior has recorded six triple-doubles (points-assists-digs) this season and has been all over the court for UIU. Brown is second on the team in kills with 180 (2.17/set), first in assists with 463 (5.58/set), third in blocks with 41 (.49/set), first in service aces with 19 and a percentage of .928 and second in digs with 233 (2.81/set).
Let Me Be Frank... Senior middle
Haylie Franklin has led the team's front line defense with 82 blocks (38th NCAA/5th NSIC) thanks to an average of 0.99/set (7th NSIC). Franklin has recoreded 101 kills, 83 digs and 19 assists in addition to her blocking.
Last Week's Leaders for the Vikings (14-7, 7-6 NSIC)... Courtney Ysker... led the team with 11 kills against CU... recorded her 10th double-double of the season with 16 kills and 13 digs in five-set loss against MSU... 3.86 kills per set... 2.89 digs per set.
Marissa Johnson... team-best 23 assists against CU... recorded 11th double- double of the season with 27 assists and 12 digs against MSU... 7.55 assists per set... leads team with 604 total assists on the season.
Tahlyr Banks... recorded 8 digs against CU... team-best 28 digs against MSU... 4.79 digs per set.
Last Week's Leaders for the #12 Wildcats (17-4, 10-3 NSIC)...
Katie Hughes... averaged 4.00 kills and 4.00 digs per set in three matches last week... had three double-doubles, raising season total to 11... recorded 16 kills with 11 digs in 3-1 win at Minnesota State Friday and had 15 kills with 23 digs in 3-1 loss to #6 SMSU.
Leisa McClintock... averaged 9.82 assists and 1.27 digs per set in three matches... credited with 41 assists, six digs and two blocks vs. SMSU... had 31 set assists with six digs and one ace vs. Minnesota State.
Alyssa Frauendorfer... averaged 0.91 blocks and 2.45 kills per set in three matches last week... had four solo blocks in 3-1 win at Minnesota State... had 13 kills while hitting .393 vs. Concordia-St. Paul Saturday.
