NSIC Weekly Release

This week in Peacock women's soccer… Upper Iowa (3-4) finishes off the second of two weekends back in Fayette with a pair of games against NSIC opponents. The Peacocks start the weekend by hosting U-Mary (2-3-3, 1-2-2 NSIC) on Frirday at 3 p.m. The match will be the first away from Bismarck, N.D., this season for the Marauders. The Peacocks series against U-Mary is tied at 3-3 since 2007, but UIU has won the last two meetings. Upper Iowa wraps up the weekend with a match against Minot State (4-2-2, 3-1-1 NSIC), who is on a three-game win streak and is currently fourth in the conference standings. The Peacocks hold the all-time record against the Beavers at a record of 2-0, with UIU beating Minot State 1-0 in both meetings.

According to Head Coach Brian Diaz... "We've been pleased with our recent success, but we still have to take it one game at a time. The season is a process and we need to continue to get better each day. Mary and Minot State are good teams and are both coming off good wins. We need to take this one game at a time and execute this weekend to continue to be successful."

3-0's Company... The Peacocks are currently riding a three game win streak, all by the score of 3-0. UIU started the stretch with a road victory over Wayne State, which was also the Peacocks first win of the season. Upper Iowa followed that victory with a pair of home wins against Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State.

Emanuel Wins Goalkeeper of the Week... Kaitlyn Emanuel was named NSIC Goalkeeper of the Week for the first time in 2014 and the third time in her Peacock career. The Byron, Minnesota product started the week by making a season-high eight saves in a 3-0 shutout win over Minnesota Duluth. Emanuel then followed that performance with six saves in a 3-0 shutout win over St. Cloud State. For the season, Emanuel has now made for 39 saves and carries a .867 save percentage. Emanuel has allowed just six goals across seven starts, spanning nearly 624 minutes. The UIU goalkeeper now has two full shutouts with an additional shared shutout. After starting the year with four straight losses, the Peacocks have bounced back with three straight conference wins, all of which were shutouts. Emanuel improved her save percentage from .760 to .867 during that span and lowered her goals against average from 1.50 to 0.87.

Edwards on a Roll... Madie Edwards has score at least one point in three straight games for the Peacocks and now has two goals and an assist on the season. Since the beginning of the 2012 season, UIU is 15-0 in matches when Edwards has tallied a point. In 2013, Edwards was second on the team in total points (25), goals (10), game-winning goals (2) and assists (5) and led the Peacocks in both shooting percentage (.323) and shots on goal percentage (.613).

Last week for the Marauders U-Mary split their games last weekend at home against Sioux Falls and Southwest Minnesota State. In a 3-1 win over Sioux Falls, the Marauders scored the game's first three goals to cruise to victory. Mary then dropped its next game to Southwest Minnesota, 2-0. The Mustangs scored in the first half, then sealed the victory with a goal in the 88th minute.

Last week for the Beavers Minot State picked up a pair of NSIC victories last week when they took on Southwest Minnesota and Sioux Falls. The weekend started with a 2-1 victory over Southwest Minnesota, with the Beavers overcoming a 1-0 halftime deficit by scoring a pair of second half goals. Minot State took that momentum into its game against Sioux Falls, scoring two goals in each half to sail to the 4-0 win.
