This Week in Peacock Volleyball… The Peacocks are on a roll over the last two weeks winning three NSIC matches and battling with the #2 Bulldogs of Minnesota Duluth.  Upper Iowa has themselves back at .500 (5-5) in the Northern Sun and sit in eighth place tied with Northern State.  UIU defeated Bemidji State in four sets on Friday night and then improved their record to 10-8 overall with a come-from-behind win over Minnesota Crookston on Saturday.  This week, UIU will travel to Minnesota State to face the Mavericks on Tuesday before returning home for a pair of NSIC matches this weekend.  The Peacocks will host #6 Southwest Minnesota State on Friday and then welcome the Cougars of Sioux Falls on Saturday.

Mundt's Out Front... Junior hitter Jennifer Mundt is one of the top hitters in not only the Northern Sun, but all of NCAA Division II.  The Utica, Minn. product is 13th in the country and 2nd in the NSIC in kills with 286, while she ranks 12th nationally and 3rd in the conference in kills/set with 4.14.  Mundt has knocked down 71 kills over the last four matches spanning 17 sets for a 4.17 average per frame. Thanks to her blocks at the net, she is averaging 4.49 points/set which ranks 28th in NCAA DII and 4th in the NSIC.

Let it Reign... Senior libero Amanda Weiss will enter the three matches this week as the reigning NSIC Defensive Player of the Week.  The West Bend, Wis. native led the Peacock defense with 59 digs and a 6.56 average per set in two wins and added 6 assists and a pair of service aces.  Weiss recorded 30 digs versus Bemidji State Unviersity and 29 digs against the University of Minnesota Crookston.  She is currently 5th in NSIC in digs/set with an average of 4.75.  Weiss now has 1,297 digs in her four-year career in Fayette and is in fourth place on UIU's all-time digs list.  With 68 more, she will take over second place behind Stephanie Horstman, who registered 1988 from 2003-06.

Stat Filler... Senior Hailey Brown is leading Upper Iowa in her final season.  The Peacock setter has recorded six triple-doubles (points-assists-digs) this season and has been all over the court for UIU.  Brown is second on the team in kills with 162 (2.3/set), first in assists with 402 (5.66/set), fourth in blocks with 28 (.39/set), first in service aces with 18 and a percentage of .921 and second in digs with 205 (2.9/set).  Brown notched two more triple-doubles this past weekend in leading Upper Iowa to a pair of wins and knocked down 19 kills along with 34 assists and 17 digs versus Minnesota Crookston.

Looking at the Minnesota State Mavericks (11-6, 7-3 NSIC)... Leaders: Krista Hassing... last week posted 26 kills (3.71 k/s) with a .371 attack percentage... added 8 total blocks and 3 digs.  Haley Fogarty... last week recorded 27 digs (3.86 dig/s), 6 assists, 1 service ace and 1 kill.  Ellie Van De Steeg... tallied 81 assists (11.5 a/s), 3 kills, 2 service aces, 17 digs and 2 total blocks.  The Mavericks went 1-1 last week after losing to Minnesota Duluth on Friday before beating St. Cloud State on Saturday.

Looking at the #6 Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs (13-5, 8-2 NSIC)... Leaders: Eisha Oden... racked up 26 kills on the weekend while hitting a team best .553... talled seven blocks with a pair being solo... recorded weekend-high 14 kills versus Northern State and hit a season-best .667... leads teams in blocks with 47 and leads conference in blocks per set (1.27).  Megan Larson... dished out 58 assist in past weekend matches... added a pair of blocks... split matches with 29 assists in each... racked up 421 assists with a 6.68 assist/set average... helped power the SMSU offense to hitting .324 over the weekend.  Whitney Burmeister... tallied 37 digs over the weekend with a high of 21 digs at MSU Moorhead... leads team with 244 digs and a 3.87 dig/set average... assisted in Southwest Minnesota State in earning a pair of sweeps over weekend.

Looking at the Sioux Falls Cougars (11-9, 5-5 NSIC)... Leaders:  Emily Johnson... Led Cougars with 39 kills (4.88/set) on a 2-0 weekend... her 26 kills in upset of No. 24 Northern State tied her previous career-high and set a new season-best... finished weekend with .280 attack percentage on team-leading 100 attempts... recorded 26 digs, finishing with two double-doubles to raise her season total to five... posted two block assists in both matches and an ace in each to finish with 43 total points on the weekend.  Kayla Crane... led USF with 82 assists (10.25/set)... dished out career-best 48 assists against Northern State... posted 34 assists (11.33/set) in sweep of MSU Moorhead... picked up 16 digs in win over NSU to record her third double-double of the season.  Abby Folk... led Sioux Falls with 46 digs (5.75/set)... recorded career-high 31 digs (5.20/set) versus NSU... posted 15 digs (5.0/set) in sweep of MSU Moorhead... reached double-digit digs in 10 straight matches and 13 overall this season... added seven assists and two service aces in the match.
