The Upper Iowa wrestling program, which just moved up to #10 in the NWCA Division II Coaches Poll, posted a pair of shutouts on Saturday afternoon en route to a perfect 4-0 mark and the Chuck Porter Duals title. In total, the Peacock grapplers combined for a 35-5 record on the day in the team's final tune up before next weekend's high-powered NWCA National Duals in Des Moines, Iowa.

The Peacocks' pair of shutouts came in the opening two duals over Hannibal-LaGrange University, 58-0, and Calumet College of St. Joesph, 57-0. UIU followed it up with a 33-6 win over Augustana College (Ill.), who is ranked #30 in NCAA Division III, to close out their pool competition and then defeated Wabash College, ranked #10 in NCAA Division III, 36-9 in the championship match.

Wabash entered the match at 3-0 on the day after defeating #12 Luther College (26-15), Knox College (57-0) and North Central College (33-9).

Falling just two points short of a perfect shutout, the Peacocks started the tournament off with a bang. UIU earned six wins by fall and a major decision and received three forfeits against Hannibal-LaGrange. The six falls were earned by Tanner Schmidt (133), Edwin Cooper (149), Dalton Westerlund (165), Colbey Vance (174), Carl Broghammer (197) and Logan Hopp (285), while the major decision came in the opening match as Chris Paulus won 15-2. Hopp's pin at heavyweight came in the fastest time (:54), but Broghammer (1:05) and Westerlund (1:08) followed closely behind.

Upper Iowa then toed the line with Calumet College, but only wrestled four matches after being handed six forfeits. The Peacocks registered three wins by fall and a win by decision in the remaining matches to earn the 57-0 win. The wins by fall came in the heaviest three weight classes as Blake Sorensen (1:35), Carl Broghammer (2:35) and Logan Hopp (2:48) all posted the bonus-point wins. Lincoln Monroe got the win by decision 6-2 at 133 pounds.

Under Head Coach Heath Grimm, now in his fourteenth season at the helm of the UIU program, the Peacocks have posted shutouts in seven different seasons. Upper Iowa defeated Knox College 54-0 and Illinois College 57-0 in Grimm's first year at the helm. The Peacocks defeated UNC Pembroke 47-0 at the National Duals in 2006, Northern State University 45-0 in an NSIC dual in 2007, a perfect 60-0 shutout of Wagner in 2009 at the Sprawl and Brawl Duals and a 41-0 NSIC dual win over MSU Moorhead in 2010. Before Saturday, the most recent shutout came last season inside Dorman Gym against Waldorf College, 53-0.

In the final match of pool competition, Upper Iowa defeated Augustana (Ill.) by a 33-6 count winning eight of the ten matches including a pair of wins by fall, a technical fall and a major decision. Sorensen posted his second fall of the day at 184 pounds in 2:22, while Hopp picked up his third fall in 2:09 at heavyweight. Broghammer (197) earned the technical fall, 19-3 (6:09), while Cooper notched a 12-1 major decision at 149. Schmidt (133), Duane Richardson (141), Westerlund (165) and Vance (174) all won their matches by decision.

UIU finished their run at the Chuck Porter Duals with a championship match against Wabash, who entered with a 3-0 record in their pool competition. The Peacocks won seven of the ten matches to gain the 36-9 win and claim the championship. Chris Paulus opened the match with a 16-0 (6:00) technical fall and after a win by forfeit at 133 pounds, the Peacocks led 11-0. Jordan Roths posted a win by fall (4:47) at 141 pounds and Cooper followed with a 12-4 major decision at 149 to extend UIU's lead to 21-0. The Little Giants picked up a win at 157 pounds, but Westerlund got the Peacocks back in the win column with a 2-1 decision to set the score at 24-3. Wabash won close decisions at 174 and 184 pounds to pull within 24-9, but UIU shut the door with their final two matches. At 197, Broghammer posted his third win by fall (1:55) and fourth bonus-point win of the day. Hopp capped off his best day as a Peacock with his fourth pin of the day (2:10) to put the final points on UIU's 36-9 win. Hopp's four pins came in a total time of 8:01.
