Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Match
Minot, North Dakota || 1 p.m.
THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK WOMEN'S SOCCER… The Peacocks will hit the road for their longest trip of the season as they head to North Dakota for the weekend. Upper Iowa (4-2, 2-1 NSIC) will line up against the Marauders of the University of Mary (1-4-1, 1-1-1 NSIC) in Bismarck on Friday, Sept. 27 at 3 p.m. UIU will then head farther west to face the Beavers of Minot State (1-2-2, 1-1-1 NSIC).
LAST SEASON VERSUS THE MARAUDERS AND BEAVERS... The Peacocks earned back-to-back wins against U-Mary and Minot State last year in Fayette. First, UIU defeated NSIC-opponent Minot State, 1-0, on Saturday, then the Peacocks finished their second weekend sweep in conference play with a 2-0 victory over U-Mary on Sunday. Kali Loescher, Lauren Rohrmeier and Jill Schechinger all found the back of the net that weekend and bumped the Peacocks up to No. 5 in the NSCAA Regional Rankings Poll after those wins.
"EDWARDS" SCISSOR-HANDS... Madie Edwards may have had her best performance as a Peacock this past weekend against St. Cloud State. The sophomore scored two goals and added an assist in Upper Iowa's 5-1 victory over the Huskies. Edwards, who has only taken a total of eleven shots this year, now has three goals from her midfield position. She also leads the team with two assists in 2013.
BEATING THE BEST… The Peacocks (3-1, 1-0 NSIC) have notched two wins over top-25 teams this season thanks to a 2-1 win over #23 Central Oklahoma and a 1-0 shutout of #17 Winona State.
LAST WEEK...
For the Peacocks... Madie Edwards scored a pair of goals and added an assist for five points in UIU's bounce-back victory over St. Cloud State on Sunday. The sophomore now has three goals on the year for the Peacocks. Upper Iowa went 1-1 in NSIC play this past weekend. After a 2-0 loss to Minnesota Duluth, the Peacocks stormed back with a 5-1 performance at St. Cloud State on Sunday. Aimee Wronski and Madie Edwards each scored a pair of goals and had an assist, while Kali Loescher netted her second goal of the season. Trina Gallaher, Lauren Rohrmeier and Corinne Wronski all posted assists in the match.
For the Marauders... University of Mary senior forward Alex Bachman-Williams scored the 30th goal of her career to cap the Marauders biggest offensive outburst of the season, a 3-0 win at the University of Sioux Falls. It was the Marauders first win of the season. The first U-Mary player to reach 30 goals solely during the Marauders NCAA era of play (2006 and later), Bachman-Williams is the ninth player in team history to reach that mark. A two-time all-region performer and a three-time all-conference selection, Bachman-Williams scored six goals as a freshman, 13 as a sophomore and nine last season as a junior. The last U-Mary player to reach 30 goals was Jessica Janusz (2005-2008)... Shelby Buttron earned her second shutout of the season when the Marauders defeated the Cougars 3-0 on Saturday. Earlier this season she kept Minot State off the board in a 0-0 draw. For the year the junior has a 1.73 goals against average, an .800 save percentage, and is making 6.0 saves per game, fourth in the NSIC... After six straight road games to open the season, U-Mary will make its home debut when the Marauders host Upper Iowa University on Friday, Sept. 27.
For the Beavers... Minot State University salvaged a split on the weekend with its best offensive match of the year – including its first lead of 2013 – in topping the University of Sioux Falls 2-1 Sunday. The Beavers ran into a buzzsaw that is the undefeated Southwest Minnesota State Saturday, falling 4-0. In the USF match, #19 Kayla Schlittenhart (Mid, 5-8, So., Sparks, Nev. / Spanish Springs High School) scored the Beavers first goal in three games, giving MISU its first lead, heading in a corner from #10 Zoe Fisher (F, 5-6, Jr., Cambridgeshire, England / St. Ivo School / Kingston College) in the 69th minute. After going two full games and a half without a goal – that included just two shots on goal in the loss at SMSU – the Beavers got a second just seven minutes later as #15 Chloe Melton (F, 5-7, Fr., Fleet, England / Courtmoor School / Reading Ladies Academy) finished off a pass from #21 Emilie Rebelo (CM, 5-8, So., Sacramento, Calif. / Natomas High School) in the 76th minute for a 2-0 lead. Goalkeeper #1 Gemma Biasetto (G, 6-0, So., Albuquerque, N.M. / Eldorado High School) made it stand as she finished with four saves in her first collegiate win. The Beavers will look to keep momentum going as they play host to Winona State Friday (7 p.m.) and Upper Iowa Sunday (1 p.m.) during its Homecoming 2013 celebration.
