The Peacock women's soccer team dropped a NorthernSun Conference match in Duluth, Minnesota this afternoon. The Bulldogs of the University of Minnesota Duluth defeated Upper Iowa by a 2-0 score. The home team scored the first goal in the final minute of the first half and added the insurance score midway through the second stanza to post the win.

Upper Iowa was the aggressor in the game early on and had a great opportunity to score in the first ten minutes, but a Kali Loescher shot rocketed off the cross bar signaled a tough day ahead for UIU. In the final minute of the half, Maureen Stormont scored a goal for UMD on an assists from Dani Potter to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead at the break.

UMD outshot the Peacocks in the first half 8-4 with three-quarters of UIU's shots coming in the first ten minutes and all four by the midway point of the half.

In the second half, Upper Iowa got a few more opportunities at the net, but were unable to convert any into goals to tie the match. Minnesota Duluth added an insurance goal in the 70th minute when Kelli Klun drove in a shot on an assist from Riley Allen.

While UIU did edge UMD in shots in the second half, 7-6, it was the home team who claimed a 14-11 advantage in shots and a 6-3 advatage in shots on goal.

UIU will return to the pitch in St. Cloud, Minn. tomorrow afternoon for a match up against the Huskies of St. Cloud State University beginning at 1 p.m.
