EARLIER THIS WEEK...

For the Peacocks... Deep down, the fourth-seeded Upper Iowa Women's Soccer team knew they were the better team when they hosted hosted the fifth-seeded Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State on Wednesday afternoon. But they were still out for revenge. The Peacocks – who dropped a 1-0 game to the Mustangs back in early October – were confident if they faced SMSU again, that they would win. That proved to be true as Madie Edwards scored the lone goal of Wednesday's Quarterfinals matchup in the NSIC/US Bank Women's Soccer Tournament. The 1-0 UIU victory sends the Peacocks to their third consecutive semifinals match.

For the Mavericks…  Top-seeded Minnesota State raced out to a three-goal halftime lead before eventually claiming a 5-2 victory over eighth-seeded Minot State in NSIC/U.S. Bank Tournament quarterfinal action Wednesday evening at the Dane Family Field House on the campus of Shattuck-St. Mary's. The win elevates the sixth-ranked Mavericks to 16-2-1 overall, while the Beavers' season comes to an end with a 7-8-2 mark on the year. MSU will make its sixth consecutive appearance in the conference tournament semi-finals this Friday at The Pitch.

COACH'S CORNER…. After completing his first regular season as head coach, Brian Diaz earned his first career playoff victory as the head man. UIU - which is competing in its fourth consecutive NSIC/US Bank Women's Soccer Tournament - defeated SMSU, 1-0, on Wednesday in a game Diaz will never forget. That victory was the 15th of the season which ties this squad for the most wins in a single season in school history. The Peacocks did however take sole possession of the top spot in team history with 12 conference wins in a single season.
