The Peacock volleyball team returned home for just their third home match in the last eleven outings tonight in Fayette. Upper Iowa welcomed Minot State University to Dorman Gym for the NSIC affair. The Beavers outlasted UIU in five sets to pick up the victory and push the home team's losing streak to twelve.
Minot State claimed a 25-21 win in set one despite Upper Iowa posting four more kills (15-11). The Peacocks handed their guests 10 points on attack errors in the set, while only receiving three from the Beavers.
In the second set, UIU managed 12 kills and only 6 attack errors while forcing the Beavers into 11 attack errors en route to a 25-22 win.
After Minot State controlled the late action in set three to post a 25-17 win, Upper Iowa rallied with a 25-22 win in the fourth set. In the fourth set, junior
Hailey Brown dominated the action at the net picking up 4 kills in the set.
The Peacocks got off to a rough start in the fifth and deciding set. The Beavers held an 8-5 lead as the teams switched ends for the final frame. UIU still trailed by three, 13-10, later in the set, but couldn't make up the difference falling 15-11.
The two sets won by the Peacocks mark the first time Upper Iowa has won multiple sets in the same match since hosting Bemidji State University on the final Saturday of September.
For the match, the Peacocks racked up 58 kills, but 34 attack errors proved to costly to make up. After a slow start defending at the net, Upper Iowa claimed an 11-8 advantage in team blocks.
