Upper Iowa continues to work through growing pains this season with a young team. Five freshman, a pair of sophomores and four juniors took the floor for the Peacocks tonight in Moorhead, Minn. Minnesota State University Moorhead took advantage of Upper Iowa's lack of experience and earned the 3-0 sweep.
UIU's offense has struggled during their current nine-match losing streak. Tonight agasint the Dragons, the Peacocks hit .090 with only 30 kills and 20 attack errors. The home team, on the other hand, hit .271 with 46 kills and 17 attack errrors.
MSUM controlled the first two sets winning 25-19 and 25-13 giving the Dragons a 2-0 lead heading to the break.
In the third set, Upper Iowa came out strong early taking a 7-3 lead. The Peacocks maintained their advantage to hold a 18-13 lead midway through the set. The Dragons quickly erased the defecit with a 9-2 run to take a two-point lead, 22-20.
The Peacocks held off three set and match points and tied the match at 27-27 on a
Chelsea Berry kill. After the home team reached their fourth match point, the Peacocks were called out of rotation on the ensuing serve and the Dragons got the final point to close out the match.
