This Week in Peacock Football... Upper Iowa exorcised a pair of demons last week with a come-from-behind victory over Concordia University, St. Paul. The win marked the first-ever win over the Golden Bears and the first time that UIU has won four games in a season since 1999, when they went 6-4. This week, the Peacocks will look to add another victory over a team they have never bested. Augustana has dominated the series with Upper Iowa and owns a 6-0 record against UIU. The Peacocks' high-flying offense is led by a balanced attack on the ground with Chris Smith and through the air with Cole Jaeschke and his receivers. The UIU offensive line has played well this season to control the line of scrimmage. Augustana is looking to snap a three-game losing streak, opening a three-game home stand and celebrating their homecoming with Viking Days.
The Series... Augustana has controlled the match up with the Peacocks since the series began in 2005. The Vikings have dominated the scoreboard in all six contests including last year's game in Fayette, 66-20. In total, Augie has scored 271 points while allowing Upper Iowa to score just 61 points in the previous six games.
21 Questions... Junior running back Chris Smith has left NSIC opponents questioning just how to get him on the ground. After rushing for 266 yards and three touchdowns last week against Concordia-St. Paul, Smith now has 2,486 career rushing yards and is in third place all-time at Upper Iowa. T.C. Hicks (2004-07) rushed for 3,198 yards, a difference of 712 yards heading into this week's match up with the Vikings. This season, Smith has run for 962 yards (160.3 per game) which ranks 5th in the country and 2nd in the NSIC. He is also ranked 10th nationally and 3rd in the conference in rushing touchdowns (10), 16th in the country and 2nd in the NSIC in all-purpose yards per game (174.2) and 20th nationally and 3rd in the league in scoring per game (10).

Are You in Good Hands?... The Peacock receiving corps is reaping the benefits of a balanced offensive attack for the Peacocks. UIU's pass offense is ranked 18th in the nation and leads the NSIC with 309.3 yards per game. Junior
Shay Gutman was lost for the season due to an injury during the Winona State game, but had 30 catches for 394 yards and 5 touchdowns before going down. The Peacocks still boast three of the top receivers in the NSIC in the form of juniors
Lucas Hefty and
Keaton Hosch and senior
Derek Giesking. The three remaining receivers have combined for 96 receptions for 1,286 yards and 8 touchdowns. Hefty's 5 scoring receptions rank 38th nationally and 4th in the NSIC, while his receiving yards (508) are 45th best in the country and 4th highest in the conference. Hosch is ranked 66th nationally and 8th in the NSIC in receiving yards (464).
Fisher, Douglas & Wahl, Inc... The Peacock linebackers have been solid for UIU's defense this season. Starters
Tyler Fisher (SLB),
Ethan Douglas (MLB), and
Alex Wahl (WLB) are all in the top four in tackles. Douglas is the team's leader in tackles with 46, while Fisher is second with 35 and Wahl is fourth with 30. The three have combined for 16.5 tackles for loss (83 yards) and 5 sacks (51 yards). Douglas forced a fumble that led to UIU's comeback at Northern State which Wahl recovered.
Peacock Air Attack… UIU quarterback
Cole Jaeschke is now at the top of ten Peacock passing and offensive records. Three weeks ago, the Moorland, Iowa native passed Jesse Willis' (1995-98) career total of touchdown passes of 48 and now has 52 after not throwing for one against the Golden Bears. The Peacock signal caller used a read-option to dash into the end zone with 1:59 on the clock for the game winning touchdown in UIU's homecoming win. Jaeschke also passed Jeff Roth's (1989-92) career passing yards mark of 6,379 extending the new mark out to 7,275 yards after racking up 928 yards the last three weeks. Nationally, the redshirt junior is ranked 10th in passing yards (1,847), 14th in passing yards per game (307.8), 19th in total offense per game (315.3), 27th in passing touchdowns (13), 21st in completions per game (24.0), 38th in points responsible per game (14.5), 52nd in passing efficiency (134.2) and 57th in completion percentage (59.%). Jaeschke is at the top of three NSIC categories including completions per game, passing yards and passing yards/game, and he is second in passing touchdowns and third in total offense per game.
