Recap
The Upper Iowa Women's Soccer team outshout their hosts - the 21st-ranked Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State - 8-2 in the first half and 10-8 overall, but SMSU's early goal from Miranda Cadena proved to be the difference in a close match. Cadena's goal in the tenth minute gave the Mustangs a lead - one they would never reliquish en route to a 1-0 conference victory in Marshall, Minnesota.
The victory kept the Mustangs record unblemished this year, while the loss dropped the Peacocks to 8-3 overall this year and 6-2 in the NSIC.
The Peacocks managed to place just two of their ten total shots on goal on Saturday afternoon while the only Mustang shot on goal found the back of the net. Cadena looped a shot over the head of Peacock goalkeeper Kaitlyn Emanuel to give her team an early lead in the tenth minute.
That goal was good enough for the eventual game-winner as the SMSU defense shut out UIU for just the second time this season.

Head Coach Brian Diaz:
On the Loss... "It was a very even match between two very good teams today. If we were to play ten times, we would each win five in my opinion. They earned their goal on their one shot on target, and we didn't."
Any Bright Spots... "I thought it was a great midfield battle today. The team brought great energy and played with great effort. We played hard and we played well, but the ball just didn't bounce our way today."
What's Next... "There's no doubt about it - the loss hurts, but we need to rebound against a Sioux Falls Team that is looking to get a win at home."
Any Standouts... "I thought Kali Loescher stood out and created several opportunities for our offense. It was a shame she didn't get rewarded with a goal today. This was one of her better games this season and we hope to see it again."
Final Comment... "Overall I thought there were a lot of positives from today. We'll learn from it and move on."
