THIS WEEKEND’S MATCHES... Upper Iowa will hit the road for the first time this year as they participate in the Middle of Everywhere Tournament held at Missouri University of Science and Technology. The Peacocks will compete against Northwest Missouri State University, Missouri S&T, Missouri Western State University and Emporia State University this Friday and Saturday, Sept. 7-8. The Peacocks will start the tournament at 10 a.m. and will face Northwest Missouri State. The Peacocks' second match on Friday will take place at at 2 p.m. and they will face the host Miners. The match will be a featured webcast and will be available to
watch online. On Saturday, UIU will line up against Missouri Western State at 11 a.m. and return to the court once more at 3 p.m. to face the Hornets of Emporia State.
PEACOCK BLOCK PARTY... Peacock senior
Kayla Wagner led all blockers at the Upper Iowa Fall Invite with a 1.64 blocks/set average and was named to the
All-Tournament Team. The Ottumwa, Iowa native blocked 23 balls (7 solo) and recorded 12 digs. Wagner also registered 30 kills while hitting .325 over the four-match span.
THE SKY'S THE LIMIT... Senior setter
Skylar Lesan paced the Peacock offense with 130 assists in four matches last weekend and posted a 9.29 assist/set average. Lesan added 9 kills and 3 aces on offense, while picking up 32 digs and 76 blocks on defense. Lesan was named to the
UIU Fall Invite All-Tournament Team for her play over the weekend.
PUT IT IN THE "BEHNK"... Junior
Melanie Behnke led all attackers at the Upper Iowa Fall Invite with a 3.93 kills/set average. She knocked down 55 kills while hitting .231 in four matches while Upper Iowa opened their 2012 campaign with four wins. Behnke was named to the
Invite’s All-Tournament Team and was selected as the MVP of the weekend by the tournament coaches and committee. The native of Seymour, Wis. added 40 digs, 10 blocks, 4 assists and 4 aces to her stat line.
SENIORS RETURNING TO LEAD THE CHARGE... Skylar Lesan, a 2011 All-NSIC performer, returns to lead the Peacocks into this season. She won’t be alone in that role though; four seniors join Lesan including middle hitters
Kayla Wagner and
Maryn Fulton, as well as defensive specialists
Danielle Gernes and
Emily Sparks.
