The Peacocks hit .306 tonight in Bismarck to claim their second straight NSIC match and sweep their road weekend in North Dakota. Upper Iowa defeated the University of Mary in straight sets thanks to wins of 25-23, 25-16 and 25-21. The wins improve UIU's record to 8-5 overall and 2-3 in the NSIC.
Both teams came out strong on offense and hit over .300 in the first set, but Upper Iowa used a 6-1 run to claim a 24-20 lead and then held on to win 25-23 on a
Melanie Behnke kill.
The Peacocks dominated the second set running away with a 25-16 win. UIU hit .243 in the set, but forced U-Mary into a .182 hitting percentage.
Upper Iowa's offense returned to form in the third set as the Peacocks edged their hosts 25-21.
Jennifer Mundt posted 15 kills for the UIU offense, while Behnke added 13 and
Kayla Wagner put down 11.
Hailey Brown handed out 39 assists in the match and
Danielle Gernes and
Amanda Weiss turned in 13 and 12 digs, respectively.
The Peacocks will return home to Dorman Gym this Friday and Saturday, Sept. 28-29, for Homecoming Weekend. UIU will host Minnesota, Crookston on Friday at 7 p.m. and Bemidji State on Saturday at 5 p.m.
