This Week in Peacock Football... Upper Iowa will return to Harms-Eischeid Stadium this Saturday afternoon to take on the Beavers of Minot State University.  Kickoff for the final NSIC cross-division battle of the season is set for 3 p.m. following a women’s soccer match between the same two schools. The football program is honoring their equipment manager, Dick Timmerman, for his 50 years of service to college football.  UIU dominated Minnesota State University Moorhead last Saturday for their first win of the season, 55-31, while Minot State lost to Sioux Falls at home, 42-20.  Minot State is in their first year of competition in the Northern Sun Conference and NCAA Division II after transitioning from NAIA.  The Peacock offense is ranked second best in the NSIC through the air and is covering 281 yards per game.

Radio...  Upper Iowa Peacock football can be heard throughout the 2012 season courtesy of AM 950 KOEL.  Play-by-play announcer Joe Stasi is in his tenth season as the “Voice of the Peacocks.” He will be joined on the broadcast by Zach Carlyle, a sophomore sports communication major at UIU.  The pre-game show is scheduled for 1:40 p.m.

The Series...  Today’s game marks the first meeting between the Peacocks and Beavers. This is Minot State’s first season as a member of the NSIC. Minot State will return to Fayette with a familiar face; Head Coach Paul Rudolph coached at Upper Iowa for 10 years including 9 as the head coach. The former Peacock put together a 43-47 record over those years in Fayette.

No Sophomore Slump…  Cole Jaeschke’s redshirt sophomore campaign is off to a great start.  Last week, the Moorland, Iowa native threw for 306 yards and 4 touchdowns.  Jaeschke has posted a passing efficiency of 155.4 through the first three games, which ranks him 25th best in the nation and 2nd in the Northern Sun.  He has now thrown for 3,255 yards in his career and sits in sixth place on the all-time list  after passing Clarke Campbell (3,230).

Hefty, Hefty, Hefty…  Sophomore tight end Lucas Hefty continues to be a top target for Jaeschke after pulling in six catches for 56 yards and two touchdowns against MSU-Moorhead.  His 21 grabs are tied for 26th in the country and lead all NSIC receivers.  Hefty’s yardage ranks 77th in the nation and 10th in the NSIC, while his six scores are tied for 4th nationally and tied for 1st in the Northern Sun.

Hosch is tied for 34th in the nation and tied for 3rd in the conference with 94 receiving yards per game and 29th  nationally  and second in the NSIC in all-purpose yards with 148 per game.

Dick Timmerman Day... Dick Timmerman began his career at UIU in 1961 and became the first fulltime Head Trainer and Equipment Manager in 1963.  He was appointed by the late Mr. Eb Eischeid.  This appointment lasted twenty-two years.  In 1982, Timmerman accepted the position of Head Equipment Manager at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.  In 1993, Dick accepted a position as the Head Football Equipment Manager at the University of Iowa in Iowa City.  Timmerman retired from this position in 2001.  In August 2003, Dick returned to Upper Iowa as the Football Equipment Manager.
