The Peacock volleyball team lost a four-set match on the road to the #18 Wildcats of Wayne State College this afternoon. WSC posted the 3-1 thanks to wins in the first, second and third set by scores of 25-16, 25-18, and 25-19. UIU won the third set, 25-21, to claim their lone win on the night. After the loss, the Peacocks drop to 6-4 overall and 0-2 in the NSIC, while the Wildcats improve to 7-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
Wayne State Head Coach Scott Kneifl recorded his 100th NSIC win with the decision after the Wildcats hit .285 for the match with 62 kills and just 13 attack errors. The Peacocks hit .137 with 49 kills and 24 attack errors.
Melanie Behnke led the Peacock attack on the afternoon with 16 kills, while
Jennifer Mundt added 12 kills off the bench.
Skylar Lesan set up the UIU attack with 38 assists and added 11 digs. The defense was led by
Hailey Brown, who tallied 24 digs, and
Amanda Weiss, who posted 17 digs.
Upper Iowa will remain on the road for three more NSIC matches next week. The Peacocks will face the Warriors of Winona State University on Tuesday, Sept. 18, at 7 p.m. and then head out on the longest road trip of the season. UIU will travel to North Dakota to face Minot State University on Friday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m. and then move back east to the University of Mary on Saturday, Sept. 22, at 6 p.m.
