THIS WEEKEND’S MATCHES... Upper Iowa is on the road for the first five matches of the 2012 NSIC campaign and the road trip will include stops at Augustana College and #18 Wayne State College this Friday and Saturday, Sept. 14-15. Friday night's match with the Vikings will begin at 7 p.m., while Saturday's contest with the #18 Wildcats will start at 3 p.m.
PUT IT IN THE "BEHNK"... Junior
Melanie Behnke leads all UIU attackers with a 3.65 kills/set average. She has put away 113 kills in eight matches while Upper Iowa opened their 2012 campaign with six wins. Behnke was named to the
Upper Iowa Invite’s All-Tournament Team and was selected as the MVP of the weekend by the tournament coaches and committee. She was named to the Middle of Everywhere All-Tournament Team as well following the Peacocks split last weekend.
PEACOCK BLOCK PARTY... Peacock senior
Kayla Wagner is second among NSIC blockers with a 1.42 blocks/set average and was named to the Middle of Everywhere All-Tournament Team. The Ottumwa, Iowa native has blocked 47 balls (12 solo) and recorded 20 digs. Wagner has also registered 65 kills while hitting .315 over the first eight games.
THE SKY'S THE LIMIT... Senior setter
Skylar Lesan has paced the Peacock offense with 307 assists in eight matches this season and posted a 9.90 assist/set average. Lesan has also added 26 kills and 6 aces on offense, while picking up 79 digs and 14 blocks on defense. Lesan was named to the
UIU Fall Invite All-Tournament Team for her play over the weekend.
SENIORS RETURNING TO LEAD THE CHARGE... Skylar Lesan, a 2011 All-NSIC performer, returns to lead the Peacocks into this season. She won’t be alone in that role though; four seniors join Lesan including middle hitters
Kayla Wagner and
Maryn Fulton, as well as defensive specialists
Danielle Gernes and
Emily Sparks.
