Friday afternoon, the Peacocks hosted the Bearcats of Southwest Baptist University. It was the first game of the season for UIU as well as their first as part of the Peacock Soccer Classic. Upper Iowa broke a 1-1 tie in the second half and went on to win the match by a score of 2-1. The Peacocks improve to 1-0 on the season while the Bearcats fall to 0-1.
Just over 29 minutes into the game, the hosts struck first on a goal from
Lauren Rohrmeier.
Valeria Ptasinski gave her a great assist from the right side of the field and Rohrmeier was able to score it.
The guests tied the game just over five minutes later thanks to a goal from Amanda White and assisted by Ashley Creason.
Just over 26 minutes into the second half,
Kali Loescher was able to break the tie. She was able to rebound the ball right in front of the goalie and kick it over the top to tally the game winner.
In goal,
Amanda Smith saved four and takes the victory.
UIU outshot Southwest Baptist by a total of 19-9 including 8-5 in shots on goal.
Next up, Upper Iowa takes on the Saints of Maryville University in day two of the Peacock Soccer Classic. Kickoff for the showdown at Pattison Field is set for 4:30 p.m.
