The pre-game show is scheduled for 12:40 a.m.
This Week in Peacock Football... The Peacocks will recognize 13 seniors prior to Saturday’s ball game with the Wildcats of Wayne State College at 1 p.m. Upper Iowa is coming off a near-historic rally at Sioux Falls last week; the team trailed 37-0, but outscored the #21 Cougars 41-17 over the final two and a half quarters falling 54-41. UIU was down 47-41 with 27 seconds to play when USF returned a onside attempt for a touchdown. Wayne State is coming off a thrilling defeat at the hands of #6 Minnesota State last week losing 42-35. After trailing 21-0 in the first quarter, the Wildcats stormed back to pull within seven with just over a minute to play. Upper Iowa’s passing attack will be up against one of the best pressure defenses in the NSIC led by Richard Daniel (8 sacks). Wayne State will use a balanced attack against the Peacocks led by their ground game that averages 185 yards a game.
The Series... The Peacocks won their first-ever NCAA Division II and Northern Sun contest at Wayne State, 24-14, in 2006. The Wildcats won the yearly meeting in 2007, 2008 and 2009, but in2010 Upper Iowa won on senior day in Fayette by a 21-20 count. Last year, the Wildcats outlasted the Peacocks winning a 44-41 overtime game to pull ahead 4-2 in the series.
Hosch Turns the “Kea”... Redshirt sophomore Keaton Hosch broke and tied a pair of Peacock records last week pulling down 14 receptions for 281 yards in UIU’s loss at Sioux Falls. The 14 grabs tie Dwayne Croker’s day against Wisconsin-Stout in 2006 while the 281 yards are 17 yards (264) better than Croker’s against the Blue Devils. The Independence native needs just 48 yards to tie the single season record for receiving yards in a season set by Croker (1023) in 2006. He has twelve touchdowns this season which tie him for 48th in the nation and third in the NSIC in scoring. Hosch is 8th in the nation and first in the conference with 108.4 receiving yards per game and also ranks 6th nationally and first in the NSIC in all-purpose yards with 184.8 per game. His work on punt returns has vaulted UIU to 12th nationally and the top spot in the NSIC.

Cole Climbing the Charts… After beginning his assault on Peacock records last week, Cole Jaeschke has posted a passing efficiency of 134.5 through the first nine games, which ranks him 52nd in the nation and 7th in the Northern Sun. The redshirt sophomore is accounting for 325.1 yards of total offense/game, which ranks 11th in the country and first in the NSIC. He has now thrown for 5,149 yards in his career and trails only Jeff Roth (6,379) on the all-time list. The Peacock passing offense is ranked 13th in the country and first in the NSIC with 312.8 yards/game. The Moorland, Iowa native set three single game records last week: passing yards (606), completions (43) and attempts (78). Three-Headed Monster… UIU’s trio of Ethan Douglas, Tony Leggett and Jordan Andera has the NSIC’s attention. Coaches around the league have to game plan around the pair of Peacock linebackers and UIU’s free safety, who spread their big hits from sideline to sideline. Douglas leads the UIU defense with 101 tackles; Leggett and Andera follow closely behind with 78 tackles apiece. Douglas is 11th in the nation and first in the NSIC with 11.2 tackles per game, while Leggett is 41st nationally and 6th in conference play with 9.8 per contest. Andera is 91st in the nation and 12th in the NSIC with 8.7 stops per game.
“Gut”-ty Performance... Redshirt sophomore Shay Gutman is having a solid season. The receiver from Cedar Rapids has caught 46 passes for 707 yards and 2 touchdowns. He is averaging 78.6 yards per game, which ranks 53rd in the nation and 7th in the NSIC, and has surpassed the 80-yard mark five times including last week’s explosion for 181 yards at Sioux Falls. Gutman is tied for 89th nationally and 7th in the conference with 5.1 receptions/game.
