The #6 Bulldogs of the University of Minnesota Duluth swept the Peacock volleyball team tonight in northeast Minnesota. The home team limited Upper Iowa's offense and allowed only a .155 hitting percentage from their guests. With the loss, UIU falls to 13-9 overall and 7-6 in the NSIC, while UMD improves to 20-2 overall and 11-2 in the conference.
Minnesota Duluth picked up dominant wins in sets one and two by counts of 25-15 and then closed the match with a 25-20 third set victory.
In the third set, UIU stayed right with the nationally-ranked Bulldogs and were tied 18-18. Unfortunately, the home team scored seven of the final nine points to claim the five-point win and the match victory.
Upper Iowa recorded 29 kills on the night led by freshman
Jennifer Mundt's eight.
Hailey Brown and
Kayla Wagner each tallied six kills, while
Skylar Lesan picked up five. Lesan handed out 22 assists, while
Amanda Weiss and Brown registered double-digit digs with 12 and 10, respectively.
Maryn Fulton had five blocks and Mundt added four at the net for UIU.
Kate Lange led the Bulldogs with 16 kills and 15 digs, while Ashley Hinsch dished out 43 assists.
The Peacocks will play at St. Cloud State on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.
