This Week in Peacock Football... Upper Iowa returns home this week to face the Viking of Augustana College. Augie has claimed all five of the teams’ meetings and is in search of their first road win of the 2012 season. Both teams are looking to bounce back after dissapointing losses last week; UIU fell to Concordia and the Vikings dropped a game to #10 Minnesota State. Last time UIU took the field at Harms-Eischeid Stadium they fell just shy of an upset over Winona State. The Peacocks will put their offense, which is ranked 35th in the country, up against the Vikings, who boast one of the toughest defenses in the Northern Sun Conference. Both teams sit in a tie for sixth in the NSIC South with a 2-4 overall record and an 0-2 mark in the division.
The Series... The Vikings have won all five meetings with the Peacocks including a 38-7 victory last season. The teams first met in 2005 when UIU was in transition to NCAA Division II and the Northern Sun Conference. Augustana was still a member of the North Central Conference at the time of that game. The teams have met each fall since Augustana joined the NSIC in 2008.
Three is “Kea”... Redshirt sophomore Keaton Hosch (#3) has eight touchdowns this season including six on receptions, one on a kick return and one on a punt return. His 8 visits to the endzone tie him for 48th in the nation in scoring. Hosch is 23rd in the nation and 1st in the conference with 97.3 receiving yards per game and also ranks 8th nationally and first in the NSIC in all-purpose yards with 181.5 per game. The Independence, Iowa native has returned 14 kicks for 337 yards and 5 punts for 144 yards and added 30 receptions for 584 yards and two rushes for 24 yards to surpass the 1,000-yard mark in all-purpose yards this season. His work on punt returns have vaulted UIU to 7th nationally and the top spot in the NSIC.
Forecast calls for “Cole” in the Air… Cole Jaeschke has posted a passing efficiency of 155.2 through the first six games, which ranks him 19th in the nation and 3rd in the Northern Sun. The redshirt sophomore is accounting for 338 yards of total offense per game, which ranks 11th in the country and 1st in the NSIC. He has now thrown for 4,196 yards in his career and sits in fourth place on the all-time list within 348 yards of claiming second place for himself. The Peacock passing offense is ranked 19th in the country and second in the NSIC with 297.3 yards per game under Jaeschke’s leadership.
