This Week in Peacock Wrestling... The Peacocks have won their first three NSIC duals to open the conference season thanks to wins at Northern State (41-4) and U-Mary (32-7) and at home against Southwest Minnesota State (28-9). UIU welcomes the Mavericks of Minnesota State University, Mankato to Dorman for Thursday's dual. MSU is receiving votes in the latest NWCA Top 20 Poll after dropping from #17 in the first poll of 2012.

Peacocks in the Polls... Upper Iowa is currently ranked #3, tied with Augustana, in the latest NWCA Top 20 Poll and six individuals are also ranked in the top 8 in the nation. The ranked Peacocks are Kyle Pedretti (125, #1), Trevor Franklin (133, #1), Wade Gobin (174, #6), Mitch Schultz (184, #4), Carl Broghammer (197, #4), and Zach Rosol (285, #6).

The Peacocks opened as the #3 team in the preseason poll and climbed up to #2 prior to the holiday break. The last two polls, released on Jan. 11 and 25, mirror teams' finishes at the NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals. St. Cloud State is the unanimous #1 team in the country, while Newberry has held their #2 spot. Augustana, a fellow NSIC-member, leapfrogged Nebraska-Kearney dropping the Lopers to #5.

Pedretti and Franklin remained at #1 in the two lightweight breakdowns, while Gobin, Schultz and Broghammer all held firm to their rankings. Rosol, who is nearing a return to the lineup, dropped one spot in the latest poll.

Peacock Probable Starters (4-1)... 125 - Pedretti (15-2); 133 - Franklin (16-0); 141 - Blake Hilmer (13-16) or Duane Richardson (15-13); 149 - Jordan Rinken (24-4); 157 - Winston Robbins (21-7); 165 - Blake Sorensen (16-7); 174 - Gobin (26-10); 184 - Schultz (19-5); 197 - Broghammer (21-7); 285 - Luke Stika (15-13) or Rosol (18-4).

Scouting the Mavericks... The Mavericks (2-5) have yet to line up for an NSIC dual. Minnesota State is on a four-match slide having lost all three contests at the Rangers Duals in Kenosha, Wis. to #12 Ashland, Indianapolis and #19 Findlay this past weekend.

Probable Maverick starters include... 125 – David Demo (17-7) | 133 – Brian Reisenauer (8-13) | 141 – Robby Fisher (13-6) or Paul Norgren (4-18) | 149 – Jesse Westphal (18-7) or Alex Folk (6-7) or Mike Murphy (5-8) | 157 – Tel Todd (22-7) | 165 – Cody Quinn (13-4) | 174 – Brendan Eichmann (12-9) | 184 – Brandon Pederson (1-5) | 197 – Derek Hahn (7-9) or Mike Knutson (3-9) | 285 – Nathan Haynes (6-6).

On the Horizon... Upper Iowa has three more home duals this season before heading to St. Cloud, Minn. for their final NSIC dual and the NCAA Super Regional. The Peacocks will face the Dragons of Minnesota State University Moorhead on Friday, Feb. 3, and the #3 Vikings of Augustana College on Friday, Feb. 10. Both duals will begin at 7 p.m.
