The Upper Iowa volleyball team opened their 2011 home schedule tonight with a sweep of future NSIC-foe Sioux Falls. The Peacocks used a high hitting percentage and strong defense to take three straight sets form the Cougars and improve to 4-1 on the early season.
The home team hit .333 for the match with a high in the third set (.400), while holding the visitors to .227 hitting.
The Peacock offense was fueled by
Nicky Brown, who recorded 14 kills, and
Kristy Hinrichs, who put down 10 balls.
Maryn Fulton added 7 kills from the middle and
Sara Vance knocked home 6.
Hailey Brown set up the attack with 33 assists, while Hinrichs added 3 aces from the service line.
The defense played well together and spread out the digs evenly. Hinrichs and Hailey Brown accounted for 6 digs each, while Vance, Nicky Brown, and
Danielle Gernes each tallied 5.
Upper Iowa (4-1) will now travel to the University of Minnesota Duluth Tournament this Friday and Saturday. The Peacocks will face the home Bulldogs and California of Pennsylvania on Friday and then return to the courts to face Rollins and Bemidji State on Saturday.
