The Peacock volleyball team pushed their record back over .500 with a win on the road tonight in Aberdeen, S.D. Upper Iowa needed five sets, but claimed a big victory over the Wolves of Northern State to move to 8-7 overall and 2-4 in the Northern Sun.
UIU won the first set by a 29-27 count, but dropped set two to the home team 25-17. After the break, the teams exchanged 25-22 decisions with the Peacocks taking set three and the Wolves grabbing set four to force a fifth set. Upper Iowa won the race to 15 winning by two points to claim the NSIC win.
The Peacocks battled through a low hitting percentage (.186), but still recorded 68 kills in the match. Northern State converted 72 kills, but also didn’t hit well (.195).
Sara Vance had a monster night for the Peacocks; the senior from Tampa, Florida recorded 27 kills while hitting .400 on the night. Vance also led the team on defense with 23 digs and 7 assisted blocks.
Nicky Brown added 13 kills, while
Kristy Hinrichs tallied 11 and
Kayla Wagner chipped in 8.
Skylar Lesan paced the offense with 60 assists on the evening. Brown registered 22 digs and Hinrichs and
Danielle Gernes each added 18. Wagner and
Maryn Fulton each assisted on 5 blocks as the team totaled 1 solo block and 22 assisted blocks.
Upper Iowa will travel north for their game tomorrow. The Peacocks will face the Marauders of the University of Mary tomorrow afternoon in Bismarck, N.D.
