The Peacock volleyball team played hard this afternoon against one of the nation's best teams in the #10 Wildcats of Wayne State College.  After the loss, Upper Iowa is now 14-14 overall and 7-11 in NSIC play.

Upper Iowa stayed right with Wayne State throughout the match as the home team held a slight .187 to .167 advantage in hitting percentage.  UIU stayed close thanks to strong defense including 12 team blocks.

The Wildcats won the first two sets by scores of 25-21 and 25-20, but the Peacocks battled back with a 25-23 set three victory.  UIU couldn't force a fifth set, but pushed the Wildcats in the fourth set losing by a 25-22 count.

Nicky Brown led the offense with 14 kills, while Sara Vance and Kristy Hinrichs added 13 and 11 kills, respectively.  Skylar Lesan pushed the attack setting up her hitters with 44 assists.  Amanda Weiss led the back line with 25 digs, while Vance, Hinrichs and Brown all racked up double figure digs as well.  Maryn Fulton and Kayla Wagner each tallied 6 blocks and Vance chipped in 5.

The Peacocks will return home for their final two matches of the 2011 season.  UIU will host the Golden Eagles of Minnesota, Crookston on Friday at 7 p.m. and then welcome the Dragons of MSU Moorhead to Dorman on Saturday at 5 p.m.
