Upper Iowa's women's soccer program earned their first win of the Northern Sun Conference season today in Sioux Falls, S.D. The Peacocks took a 2-1 lead into the halftime break, and after the Vikings tied the match early in the second, the visitors stole the win with just over two mintes to play on a goal by
Allison Clark. With the win, UIU improves to 3-5-1 overall and 1-3-1 in the NSIC.
Augustana got on the board first on an unassisted goal off a free kick in the 24th minute. The Peacocks tied the match in the 31st minute when Corrine Wronski scored her fourth goal of the season on an assist from
Kelsey Taldone. UIU then quickly took the lead thanks to an
Emma Vanderheyden goal just one minute later;
Kali Loescher assisted on the goal.
In the second half, the Vikings tied the match just eleven minutes in on a penalty kick. Clark scored the game winning goal in the 88th minute; the score was unassisted.
The Vikings outshot the Peacocks 20-11, but Kaitlyn Emmanuel and the Peacock defense remained strong. Emmanuel made 9 saves in goal for UIU.
The Peacocks will host two NSIC matches this week in Fayette. The Golden Bears of Concordia University, St. Paul and the Huskies of St. Cloud State University will visit Pattison Field this coming Saturday and Sunday; both matches are scheduled for 1 p.m. starts.
