The Peacock volleyball team completed another weekend split in the Northern Sun to remain .500 in conference action. After last night's hard fought loss to #4, and undefeated, Minnesota Duluth, Upper Iowa bounced back with a dominating performance against the Beavers of Bemidji State. UIU (12-9, 6-6 NSIC) scored a straight set victory over their guests thanks to excellent hitting and solid defense.
The home team came out with authority in the first set putting together a 25-11 win thanks to .480 hitting while forcing the Beavers into more errors than kills. Upper Iowa continued to hit well in the second set recording a .400 percentage with 18 kills to just 2 errors while picking up a 25-14 win. in the third set, UIU earned a 25-18 victory and once again forced their guests into more attack errors than kills.
UIU was led by
Kristy Hinrichs, who led the team with 13 kills and 13 digs.
Kayla Wagner posted 7 kills, while
Maryn Fulton,
Nicky Brown,
Skylar Lesan and
Sara Vance all knocked down 6 balls. Lesan added 28 assists, while Vance and Brown each chipped in 5.
Danielle Gernes was strong against the attack coming up with 10 digs, while four Peacocks tallied four blocks apiece. The wall of defenders included Fulton, Vance, Lesan and Wagner. UIU also added 8 service aces led by Brown's three.
Bethany Thompson led the BSU offense with 7 kills, while JessiBeth McCannell paced the attack with 11 assists. Elissa Christensen led the defense with 11 digs.
The Peacocks will face their final non-conference opponent in Clinton, Iowa this coming Monday. UIU will line up with the Saints of Ashford at 7 p.m.
