After a slow start in set one against the Marauders of the University of Mary, Upper Iowa put together a nearly perfect set to tie the match at 1-1 heading into the break.
The Peacocks hit .476 in the second set with 10 kills and no attack errors. UIU continued their winning ways in the third and fourth sets to earn their second straight victory and push their overall record two games over .500 (9-7). UIU is now 3-4 in the NSIC and sits in 8th place in the league standings.
After dropping set one by a 25-20 count, the visitors won set two 25-10 and then came back with wins of 25-19 and 25-16 to close out the victory.
Sara Vance and
Nicky Brown led the way on offense with 13 kills apiece, while
Kristy Hinrichs added 8 and
Kayla Wagner chipped in 7.
Skylar Lesan handed out 41 assists in the match and added 5 kills and 9 digs.
Hinrichs led the team in digs with 17, while Brown recorded 16. Wagner celebrated Halloween a bit early dressing up as a brick wall at the net... the junior came away from the match with 3 solo blocks and 8 assisted blocks. Vance added 6 assisted blocks.
Vance and
Amanda Weiss each registered 3 service aces.
Upper Iowa will host St. Cloud State this coming Tuesday, Oct. 4, in Dorman Gym at 7 p.m.
