Following a 1-3 showing in Florida to open the 2010 season, the Peacocks look to rebound this weekend as they visit Rolla, Missouri for the Super 8/Days Inn & Suites "Middle of Everywhere" Classic hosted by Missouri S&T.
The Peacocks open the two-day event on Friday by battling the host-Miners of Missouri S&T at 2 p.m. UIU then plays Drury at 6 p.m. before closing the tournament by lining up against Chadron State and Missouri Western State on Saturday.
Scouting the Miners
Missouri S&T opened the 2010 season last weekend by travelling to Lakeland, Florida to compete in the Florida Southern College Classic hosted by Florida Southern University.
The Miners won both matches on Friday, Sept. 3 over the University of Montevallo (3-0) and Angelo State (3-1). But dropped both contests on Saturday to Southwest Baptist (3-2) and the Moccasins of Florida Southern (3-0).
Scouting the Panthers
The Panthers of Drury University carry a 5-3 early season record into this weekend’s action at Missouri S&T’s "Middle of Everywhere" Classic.
The Panthers opened 2010 by playing a pair of doubleheaders in Anchorage, Alaska. Drury was swept by the University of Alaska-Anchorage and split the doubleheader with Alaska-Fairbanks.
Last weekend, DU went 4-0 in the Texas Woman’s University Classic held in Denton, Texas. The Panthers swept Northwest Nazarene and East Stroudsburg on Friday before defeating Texas Woman’s University, 3-1 and sweeping Texas A&M International on Saturday.
Scouting the Eagles
The Chadron State College Eagles enter Friday’s action looking to rebound from a rough opening weekend at the University of Nebraska-Omaha Showcase.
The Eagles were swept in all four contests against Midwestern State, Newman University, Northern State and Arkansas-Fort Smith.
The Wolves of Northern State, an NSIC conference team, defeated CSC 25-10, 25-9 and 25-15 on Saturday afternoon.
Scouting the Griffons
Missouri Western State opened the 2010 season last weekend by competing in the Christian Brothers University Tournament in Memphis, Tennessee. MWSU went 2-2 in the weekend’s action.
On Friday, the Griffons defeated Cameron University 3-0 before dropping their second match to Ouachita Baptist, 3-2.
Missouri Western repeated Friday’s results on Saturday as they defeated the University of Illinois-Springfield, 3-1, before losing their second match of the day to Christian Brothers University, 3-0.
Series History
Upper Iowa has never played Drury or Missouri S&T in volleyball since transitioning to NCAA Division II.
The Peacocks are 2-0 against Chadron State and 1-2 versus Missouri Western State since becoming a member of NCAA Division II. However, the Peacocks are 1-0 against both squads under Coach Robertson.
The Last Meeting
Upper Iowa and Missouri Western State met last season on September 12 when the Peacocks defeated the Griffons, 3-1. The Griffons took the first set 25-21 before UIU rallied to win three straight sets by scores of 32-30, 25-14 and 25-22.
The Peacocks and Eagles last met on September 5, 2008. UIU swept Chadron State 25-22, 33-31 and 25-21.
