Fayette, Iowa - Eb Eischeid Stadium

#2 Minnesota Duluth at Upper Iowa

This Week in Peacock Football...

After visiting Texas to open the 2010 season, the Peacocks return home Saturday afternoon as they open Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play against the #2-ranked Bulldogs of Minnesota Duluth. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. inside the friendly confines of Eb Eischeid Stadium.

Last Time Out: UIU lost its season opener last Saturday, Sept. 4 at Texas A&M-Commerce. The Lions defeated the Peacocks 33-10.

Scouting the Bulldogs

The #2-ranked Bulldogs of Minnesota Duluth enter Saturday’s matchup with a 1-0 record after defeating Central Washington 35-10 on Saturday, August 28. UMD was idle last week.

The Bulldogs carry a 28-2 record in their last 30 contests into Fayette this weekend and will rely heavily on two time All-American and 2009 Harlon Hill Trophy Winner, Issac Odim. The senior back rushed for over 1,800 yards last season and scored a total of 33 touchdowns last season.

Central Washington held Odim to just 50 yards on 20 carries while giving up a four-yard touchdown to the senior running back.

The Bulldogs are heavy favorites to once again win the NSIC. UMD earned 169 points in the preseason coaches poll and garner 13 of the 14 first-place votes.

Series History

UIU and UMD have met twice since the Peacocks transitioned to NCAA Division II. Minnesota Duluth holds a 2-0 series record.

Defending Eischeid vs. Top 25

This Saturday’s game against #2-ranked Minnesota Duluth marks the third time since UIU transitioned to NCAA Division II, and the second consecutive time that a ranked opponent has visited Eischeid Stadium in Fayette.

Last Halloween, UIU hosted #4 Minnesota State in Fayette. The Mavericks won the contest 48-17. Prior to that game, the last time UIU hosted a ranked team at Eischeid came in the 2004 season when Upper Iowa was a NCAA Division II Independent.

On October 23, 2004, the #13-ranked Coyotes of South Dakota visited Fayette and defeated the Peacocks 45-12.
