Following a two-week layoff in their schedule, the Peacock Women’s Soccer team continues the 2010 season this weekend with a pair of matches.
Upper Iowa opens Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play on Friday when the #24-ranked Warriors of Winona State visit Pattison Field in Fayette. WSU enters Friday’s match with a 3-2-0 record and won their last contest over Regis University, 1-0. The match is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.
UIU will close out the weekend by hosting the Cornell College Rams on Sunday. The Rams are 0-5-0 in 2010 and will battle the Peacocks at 1 p.m.
Scouting the #24 Warriors
The Winona State University Warriors enter Friday’s match with a 3-2 record and were victorious in their last outing on Sept. 12 against Regis University, an NCAA Division II opponent from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. WSU has posted four goals this season, two of which have come off of the foot of junior midfielder Jordyn Strege.
Scouting the Rams
The Rams of Cornell College enter Sunday’s match as losers of their first five contests of the 2010 season. Cornell has been outscored 37-1 in those five games and were defeated by UW-Stevens Point, 7-0 in their last outing.
Series History
UIU’s series history with Winona State has been a bit one sided since the Peacocks’ transition to NCAA Division II.
The Peacocks are 0-8 against the Warriors, however; the last two contests between the two teams have been settled in overtime sessions.
UIU haven’t played against Cornell College since both teams were NCAA Division III programs.
