The Golden Bears of Concordia made the most of their final game of their inaugural season in Sea Foam Stadium. The home team posted touchdowns on five of their six first half possessions on their way to a dominating win, 56-7.
Spencer Ohm stole the show for Concordia with 326 yards and 3 touchdowns on 21 completions. The junior led Golden Bears to the first 42 points of the game before Upper Iowa scratched the scoreboard with a score midway through the third quarter. Sam Campbell added 95 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground, while Charles Gilbert hauled in 4 catches for 137 yards and two scores.
The Peacocks were dominated in all areas of the game. CU held large advantages in first downs (28-12), rushing yards (177-37), passing yards (380-99), and total offense (557-136).
Upper Iowa’s lone score came in the third quarter when backup quarterback Kirby Hovden found Kinon O’Neal at the goal line for a 5-yard score.
Sam Epsteen rushed for 57 yards on 17 attempts and John Baldwin made two catches for 47 yards. Gus Preuss stayed busy on the day with 8 punts with a 38 yard average including three inside the 20-yard line.
Ethan Douglas and Tony Leggett led the defense with a combined 25 tackles; Leggett also had an interception. Nate Curran and Preston Spencer added 10 and 8 tackles, respectively.
UIU (2-8, 2-7 NSIC) will head to Sioux Falls, S.D. next Saturday for their final game of the 2010 season. The Peacocks will look to upset the #7 Vikings of Augustana. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. at Kirkeby-Over Stadium.
