The Upper Iowa Women's Soccer team has qualified for the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament in four out of five seasons since UIU joined the NSIC in 2006. In three of those appearances, UIU has ran into the Warriors of Winona State University in the first round of the tournament. Fresh off of their seventh consecutive NSIC regular season championship, the #16-ranked Warriors ousted UIU from the 2010 NSIC/U.S. Bank NSIC Soccer Tournament, 3-1, on Wednesday night in Winona, Minnesota.

UIU had to fight from behind all night after the Warriors hit the scoreboard just 55 seconds into the match when Warrior midfielder Jordyn Strege netted her fifth goal of the season and put the home team up 1-0.

Upper Iowa made things interesting in the 21st minute of action when defender Kelsey Taldone scored the first goal of her short UIU career off of a Valeria Ptasinski assist to tie the match at 2-2. Ptasinski, named Second Team All-NSIC earlier in the afternoon, recorded her seventh assist of the season.

The tied score didn't last long as just five minutes later, the Warriors retook the lead when NSIC Newcomer of the Year, Jennifer Deroo notched her 10th goal of the season in the 26th minute to give WSU a 2-1 lead at the halftime break.

The Peacocks gave themselves oppurtunities to pull back even in the second half, but a 65th minute Winona State put the match out of reach for UIU as they fell to the ranked Warriors, 3-1. Winona State outshot UIU 10-3 which included a 5-1 clip in shots on goal for the match and earned a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Peacocks finish the 2010 with a 9-7-3 overall record and a 5-5-3 mark in NSIC matches while the Warriors host the semifinals and finals of the 2010 NSIC/U.S. Bank Soccer Tournament this upcoming weekend.
